Sydney Flying Boats

Catalina Restaurant, Rose Bay, Australia provides exceptional food, wine and service, a fantastic backdrop from which to view modern day seaplanes coming in and out of the harbour. It is the perfect spot to imagine the splendour of first class travel by flying boat from Sydney to Singapore in the late 1930’s. The Catalina was an American and Canadian flying boat built in the 1930’s and 40’s.

Gardener’s Lodge

20130626-201851.jpg
Built in 1888, one of two sandstone residences that flanked the gates to the main approach to the University of Sydney. The Gardener’s Lodge has been used as a public convenience (toilet) and sat empty for almost 10 years before being renovated and opening as a cafe in Victoria Park in 2012.

The mirror-imaged Messenger’s lodge was sadly demolished in 1940.

Flamingos in the mist

After a break of only one week I have found it incredibly difficult to get back into the swing of life in Sydney. The memory of our vacation in the uncomplicated, tropical Winter climate of Port Douglas stands in stark contrast to the daily routine of (relative) cold, traffic and gym based exercise life to which I have returned.

Making sense of the polarised forces at work have highlighted what a cluttered life I lead, holding on to too much emotionally and physically. It is no wonder that I feel sluggish as I haul the baggage of my past around with me. I stand facing a barricade of feelings and possessions that I need to clear from my path.

Winter beauties

Like a person possessed I have accumulated quite a number of pictures of flowers while in Port Douglas, Australia. The one on the left is a member of the ginger family, I have no idea what the other two are, any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Mermaids?

Each time I walk past these water lilies my imagination takes a plunge into fantasy, I see green fish or exotic mermaids taking a dive into the pond.
