The pink and yellow of these frangipani flowers remind me that Summer is nearing its end; Autumn’s just over a week away.
Reflecting on the bigger picture
Nature’s reminder of the importance of the ‘how’ and the ‘why’
Walking from Randwick shops to my office, the vibrant pink of this hibiscus attracted my attention. Quickly activating the photo app on my phone, I hoped the breeze would not move the blooms too much. Visualising hot pink against a contrasting green background with an accent of yellow, I focussed and clicked several times.
While reviewing the pictures I noticed that in editing the leaves to make the flower the star I would lose the way the sunshine catches the leaves. Instead I decided to allow the pride of the plant to draw one’s gaze to the powerhouse of the plant.
On reflection I realised that I am often drawn to the prize without thinking about the bigger picture – focussing on the ‘what’ rather than the ‘how’ and the ‘why’.

Gift keeps on giving
Quite soon after moving to Sydney a friend gave us a dracaena, it is hardy, easy to grow and prune. The large black plastic pot it came in also had begonias and this succulent. It sends out runners with long fleshy, serrated, elliptic shaped leaves and tall spikes with delicate looking pink bell shaped flowers.

A walk from Lewisham to Dulwich Hill and back today provided plenty of photo opportunities. I couldn’t resist cherry blossom against a deep blue sky.
The magnolia blooms in the garden have begun to open, capturing images of them is becoming an obsession.
Silver clouds and cows
After a few disappointing exhibitions in Australia, I had low expectations of Andy Warhol at Te Papa Museum in Wellington, New Zealand. I am happy to say I enjoyed it. It was good to see early pencil sketches along with the predictable famous portraits.
The highlight for me was the Silver Cloud and Cows installation. Large helium filled rectangular shaped silver pillows gently float above and around. The pink cow head on yellow wallpaper is reflected on the surface of the inflated silver oblongs. I found the ever changing surfaces calming.
