The flowers of the Birds of Paradise resemble a brightly colored bird in flight and so the name Birds of Paradise.

I have a massive very old one in the corner of my back garden. In the winter months it often will have 20-30 blooms at a time when I remember to fertilize it. The summer months it will only have 2-3 blooms at a time. It really likes the rainy season best.
