Underwater selfie

We had a pre-wedding holiday with our family in October last year. The underwater disposable camera was an impulse purchase for our snorkelling trip to the Barrier Reef, Australia. A lack of film processing shops and moving house contributed to a delay in getting the pictures developed. Of course I had forgotten that this was one of the shots.

Twilight

I took this picture from a pedestrian bridge over the Paramatta Road connecting Petersham and Leichhardt. I’m still pondering the simile of twilight as a transition from day to night.

What am I?

Seemingly hard polished outside,

Smooth, shiny and cool to the touch.

Perfect for travels far and wide;

Pochette for cleansers, paints and such.

What am I?

Outer marching ants stitched just right.
Inside cheerful stripes on white.

Timeless, long lasting luxury;

A welcome gift for you and me.
What am I?

The perfect gift for Father’s Day!
I am promoting the Kangaloon Leather Toiletry / Storage Bag (available on Amazon) for my dear friend Libby. The same friend I mentioned in my post The way of the gull

The Way of the Gull

I was inspired by my friend Libby’s story of the spiritual fulfilment she enjoys when she accompanies Mel on his pilgrimage from Sydney, Australia to Britain. Mel organises annual walking tours of the Isle of Man for people living with cancer. The following information is from Mel’s website:

Walks to inspire imagination, creativity and healing – a celebration of spirit!

Isle of Man Pilgrimages begins its program in July-August 2015 with a gently challenging walk around this beautiful island for people with cancer, lead by an experienced walker, himself a cancer survivor.

Carers are welcome.

The Isle of Man lies in the Irish Sea, between England and Ireland, and is a site of ancient Celtic spirituality. It offers walkers the opportunity for adventure and exploration, and the simple enjoyment of putting one foot in front of the other just to see where the path goes.

Raad ny Foillan – The Way of the Gull – is a 95-mile walking track around the coastline of the Isle of Man. It is a path across fields and clifftops, through glens and along beaches, almost always within sight of the sea.

Over 10 days we will walk together all the way around the island, in daily sections, returning each afternoon to a comfortable home-away-from-home for reflection and rest, and good food in good company.

You can find more about the tours, Mel and Libby (Elisabeth) at http://isleofmanpilgrimages.org/

Bandstand

Bandstand, Petersham Park, Sydney, Australia. It was built to commemorate the coronation of Edward VII, King of Great Britain and Ireland, and of the British Dominions beyond the Seas and Emporer of India.

Restored in 1993, the building consists of a timber and iron structure on a sandstone platform with a slate roof.

On Saturday, 20 September 1902, in the presence of 10,000 spectators, the Governor of New South Wales, Sir Harry Rawson, officially opened this bandstand.

Secure

Rusted barrel still safely locked,

Marker on way or where we‘ve been.

Trusted path, a familiar scene.

Starker truth, bike’s long since been hocked.

Taken just off Parramatta Road, Sydney, Australia.

Recharging the Empath

Sound advice on self care

self-careRecharging the Empath

Years ago I read a book titled “Are you Really Too Sensitive” by Marcy Calhoun. That was the beginning of my understanding through someone else’s words, what an empath is, why I felt that way I did, and how to take better care of myself. The dictionary describes empath as “a person with the paranormal ability to apprehend the mental or emotional state of another individual.” I will add “whose world is bombarded with feelings and thoughts, oversaturated with internal and external data, that which then, becomes understatedly overwhelming.” Am I speaking your language?

Having heightened senses and feeling thoughts and emotions around us can be confusing and draining. Empath’s can be viewed and labeled as over sensitive, reactionary, delusional, depressed, neurotic, paranoid, crazy, you get the point – and those labels become part of the arduous demands we face. Bottom line – there is nothing wrong…
